What is 17-0?

The perfect-season NFL draft game — and how the simulation actually works.

Only one team in NFL history has finished a season undefeated: the 1972 Miami Dolphins, 17 wins and 0 losses. 17-0 is a free browser game that asks whether your team could do it too — built from players across every era of pro football history, not just one roster from one season.

Each game, you spin for a random franchise and era, draft one legend from that spin, and repeat until all 10 starting positions are filled. Then the game simulates a full 17-game regular season plus a four-round playoff gauntlet and tells you your record. Go 17-0 and you've matched the only team that ever did it for real.

How the simulation works

Your result isn't random — it's deterministic. The same 10-player roster produces the same record every time. Three things determine your team strength score:

Weighted rating. Every player has a rating. Not all positions count equally toward your score — quarterback carries the most weight, followed by the pass rush and offensive line.

Chemistry. If your quarterback and a receiver or tight end actually played together — same team, same era — you get a bonus. A Hall of Fame roster with no real chemistry scores lower than a slightly-less-decorated team that actually shared a locker room.

Weak-link penalty. Your lowest-rated starter matters more than your highest-rated one. A single below-average player at any position drags the whole simulation down.

Game modes

Classic is the standard mode — ratings and accolades visible during the draft. Pro Scout hides all of that, so you're drafting on name and team recognition alone. Daily Eye Test is a once-a-day challenge: everyone gets the same spin sequence with Pro Scout forced on, so results are directly comparable on the daily leaderboard. Challenge Mode removes respins entirely once you've proven you can build a winner.

After any result, you can send a Head-to-Head challenge to a friend — they draft their own roster and the game compares records directly, rather than just posting a score to a feed.

Frequently asked questions

Is 17-0 affiliated with the NFL?
No. 17-0 is an independent fan project, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NFL or any of its member clubs. Player names and historical statistics are used for entertainment purposes only.
Is it free?
Yes. 17-0 is free to play in the browser, no account required.
What data does the game collect?
Gameplay state — streak, game count, theme — is stored locally in your browser. If you choose to save your streak or opt into daily reminders, an email address is stored for that purpose. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Why did my team of Hall of Famers lose?
Cross-era, cross-team rosters earn zero chemistry bonus and often carry a weak-link penalty. The 1972 Dolphins weren't the most talented roster ever assembled — they were a coherent team. The simulation rewards the same thing.
How often does the Daily Eye Test change?
Once every 24 hours. Everyone who plays that day gets the identical spin sequence, so the daily leaderboard is a fair comparison.
